Steve Reich’s 80th Birthday Celebration at Carnegie Hall

As I mentioned in my previous post, I recently had the opportunity to document two rehearsals leading to the grand celebration of Steve Reich’s 80th birthday at Carnegie Hall. The first rehearsal was a sectional of ICE as they prepared for the premiere of Mr. Reich’s new work, “Pulse.” The second was the final dress rehearsal at Carnegie Hall where the works “Quartet” and “Three Tales” were added to the program.

The production at Carnegie Hall was on a grand scale, conducted by David Robertson with Synergy Vocals, ICE and So Percussion. Mr. Reich was there crafting the rehearsal to his vision as well.

Watching Mr. Reich work and tweak his own music was magical.

Happy Birthday, Maestro!
